FEAR BASED AGGRESSION

FEAR BASED AGGRESSION

Why did my dog (yellow labrador) suddenly become aggressive?

This breed is trained as seeing eye dogs, as a result of their friendly temperment and ability to adapt to people and places.

Moving into a different enviornment....fear of new surroundings....people coming into his space that he hadn't met before. Fear of abandonment in his new backyard.

How can we apply this to our human way of living and can this cause us to become aggressive, also?

The answer is yes.....humans also can become aggressive when they are fearful. It is a way someone shows power over situations that they are unfamiliar with. It is a way someone can hide their unability to understand what they are feeling and then express that lack of understanding by intimidation. Fear can manifest itself in violent and physical, as well as emotional abuse.

Think of what you are afraid of....then ask yourself, "Do I act angry or aggressive when I am afraid?"

Learn to say to yourself, " What is it that I am fearing?" Then take a "TIME OUT!" Leave the scene.....Take several Deep Breaths. Think of the consequences. If you find yourself beginning to think about acting aggressively, know that it's o.k. to feel unsure of yourself. It's better to calm down your thoughts before you communicate words and actions that you will regret later.
